BRIEF HISTORY OF TRINITY SOCIETY
(FORMERLY MADINA ESTATE SOCIETY)
Madina Estate Society, now Trinity Society, started its first service on Sunday 8th December, 1991 at the Estate J.S.S. Classroom.
Planting of the church
The need to plant a new church in the Madina Estate area became necessary in the latter part of 1991. This was due to the increasing number of members who lived in the area.
The Madina Youth Fellowship conceived the idea as part of their evangelism programme, and handed the idea over to the Evangelism Committee to oversee the actual planting of the church. The Madina Central Leaders Meeting under the Chairmanship of Rev. Dr. A. K. Quarcoo (deceased), granted permission to the Evangelism Committee to organize the crusade at Madina Estate.
A week-long mammoth crusade was held at the Madina Estate J.S.S Park, from Monday 25th November to Saturday 30th November, 1991, organized by the Madina Society Evangelism Committee chaired by Rev. Capt. E. O. Woolley and the Madina Youth Fellowship led by Bro. F. O. Kusi. Rev. Dr. A. K. Quarcoo (deceased) was the Minister in Charge of Ebenezer Methodist Church Madina under whose general supervision the crusade to establish the Madina Estate Society was organized. The main speaker was Rev. E. A. Appiah from Trinity College with other pastors. The entire membership of Madina Methodist Church and Ashaley Botwe Methodist church actively took part in the crusade.
Thanksgiving Service
Thanksgiving service was held to round off the Church planting crusade on Sunday, 1st December, 1991. At the said service, the late Mr. J. A. Abban was made the Caretaker. Rev. Grant Essilfie, then a student of Trinity College who featured prominently in the crusade was tasked to handle the new preaching post until August, 1994. The Madina Society helped to nurture the young Church by sending local preachers. Madina Youth Fellowship also played a key role in the growth of the Church during its formative years.
Society Status
After five years as Preaching Post, Madina Estate was granted a Society status in the Madina Section of Accra Circuit, on Sunday, 25th February, 1996. The inauguration was done by Rev. Nahum Mensah (deceased), then Superintendent Minister of Accra Circuit. Other ministers present were Rev. Charles R. A Pappoe, Rev. Samuel Kofi Osabutey, who was the Minister of Madina Society at the time of inauguration and Rev. Dr. J. K. Osei was the Minister in charge of Estate Society. The day also marked the sod - cutting ceremony for the nursery school and chapel projects of the new society. The Bro. Joseph Afedzi Abban (deceased) was made the first Society Steward. The increasing activities of the society called for the appointment of additional stewards in person of Sis. Georgina Dixon Mensah (deceased) and Bro. Mantey Annobi in 1996.
Inaugurations
The growth of the Church was imminent as Church organizations sprang up with every member of the Church contributing his or her quota. The significant part of the society’s growth was the induction of the first Class Leaders numbering nine on Sunday, 17th December, 1995, and the first Local Preachers numbering four were commissioned on 24th November, 1996, respectively. The following activities also took place; the church choir was inaugurated on 1st November, 1996; Women Fellowship was inaugurated on 2nd March, 1997 whilst the Methodist Youth Fellowship’s inauguration followed on 4th May, 1997. Christ Little Band was inaugurated on 2nd May, 1998, with Men’s Fellowship followed on 2nd October, 1998. Singing Band got inaugurated on 2nd May, 1999.
Land for New site & Documentation
The land which the current Trinity Society occupies, was located by Bro. J. O. Arko. Through the instrumentality of Sis. Georgina Dixon Mensah (deceased) and Bro. J. O. Arko, the church acquired the land. Working with the District Assembly for the requisite documentations was done by the two. Bro. J. O. Arko took custody of the documents. Later, Bro. Asare Dokyi (deceased) took over custody of the documentation. Cutting the sod for the nursery project was done on 25th February, 1996, the day the church was granted society status. Work on the nursery project had started with few members offering self-help service to the project on Saturdays. However, leaders meeting held in January 1998 abandoned the nursery project to work on the chapel building. Work started on the chapel building project on 28th March, 1998.
Sad events
The activities in the society however slowed down when the first steward, Bro. J. A. Abban died on 29th November 1997 and six months later in May 1998, steward Georgina Dixon Mensah also died. The church had earlier lost two sons; Bro. D. F. Addison in July 1997 and Bro. Emmanuel Ameah (children service) on 7th November, 1997. At this time, fear had gripped everybody in the church. The lone steward, Bro. Mantey Annobi bravery held the church together and in July 1998, Bro. Amos Osei (deceased) was appointed as steward to replace the late Sis. Georgina Dixon Mensah.
Properties Register
At the leaders meeting held on 15th January 1998, Bro. Asare Dokyi (deceased) was tasked by the minister, Rev. Samuel Kofi Osabutey, to take stock of all the church properties including all organizations, and open a register for them.
Need for full time minister
From 1997 until October 1998, the society did not have a resident minister. Rev. Samuel Kofi Osabutey –then a minister at Madina Methodist Church, had oversight responsibility. The society at this moment needed a full time minister. Therefore, on Sunday, 4th October, 1998, Rev. Mrs. Laurene Nyarko assumed duty as the first resident minster.
In January 1999, Bro. Amos Osei (deceased) was appointed as the caretaker of Ogbojo Preaching Post which was planted by Trinity Society. The vacant steward position was filled by Sis. Alice Addo-Yobo in May 1999. Bro. Michael Ameah joined the stewards in May 2000 and Bro. Alex Aboagye Brown in 2001.
Moving to New Site
In the middle of 2000, it became necessary to move the church to the uncompleted new chapel building which had become obsolete and without electricity and roof. On Sunday, 22nd October, 2000, the Society finally moved to the new premises after nine years of worship at the Estate J.S.S. classroom. The inconveniencies were numerous. The Rev. Samuel Kofi Osabutey in a sermon called on all member to build a united church to the glory of God. Series of revivals and prayers were held to take away the fears and to move the church forward.
